This Privacy Policy explains how Innovation Hub Studio Ltd ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use the TaxLiteMTD mobile application and website (together, the "Service"). We are the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
In short: Your tax records are stored on your own device by default. We never see or store your HMRC Government Gateway password. We do not sell your data. You stay in control of your information.
1. Who we are
Innovation Hub Studio Ltd is a company registered in the United Kingdom. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, you can contact us at contact@taxlitemtd.co.uk.
2. What data we collect
Information you provide
- Your name and Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR), used to identify you to HMRC
- The type of taxpayer you are (sole trader, self-employed, or landlord)
- Income, expense, and transaction records you enter
- Receipt and invoice images you choose to attach
Information from connecting to HMRC
- Authentication tokens issued by HMRC when you connect your account through their secure OAuth service
- Filing obligations, submission statuses, and reference numbers returned by HMRC
Information collected automatically
- Basic technical and diagnostic data needed to keep the app working and secure
3. Where your data is stored
By default, the records you enter are stored locally on your device. If you subscribe to Premium and enable cloud backup, your records are also stored in encrypted form on secure servers so they can sync across your devices. You can disable cloud backup at any time.
4. Your HMRC connection
When you connect your HMRC account, authentication is handled entirely by HMRC's official OAuth 2.0 service. We never receive, see, or store your Government Gateway user ID or password. We only hold the access tokens HMRC issues so the app can submit on your behalf, and you can revoke this access at any time.
5. How we use your data
- To prepare and submit your quarterly updates and Final Declaration to HMRC
- To calculate estimated figures and show your tax position
- To send you reminders about upcoming filing deadlines
- To provide cloud backup and sync, if you enable it
- To keep the Service secure, reliable, and working correctly
6. Legal bases for processing
We process your data on the basis of performing our contract with you (providing the Service), your consent (for example, cloud backup), and our legitimate interests in keeping the Service secure and functioning. Where processing is required to meet a legal obligation, we rely on that basis.
7. Sharing your data
We share data only where necessary to provide the Service:
- HMRC — to make the submissions you instruct
- Infrastructure providers — who host cloud backup on our behalf under strict data protection terms
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.
8. How long we keep your data
Local data remains on your device until you delete it or remove the app. Cloud backup data is kept for as long as your Premium subscription is active, and removed within a reasonable period after you cancel or request deletion, subject to any legal retention requirements.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. To exercise any of these, contact us at contact@taxlitemtd.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
10. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption of cloud-stored data and secure handling of HMRC tokens. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and keep our measures under review.
11. Children
The Service is intended for adults managing their own tax affairs and is not directed at anyone under 18.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you within the app.
13. Contact
For any questions about this policy or your personal data, email contact@taxlitemtd.co.uk.
